ETH/BTC Breakout: Altseason on the Horizon?

ETH/BTC Breakout: Altseason on the Horizon?

Ethereum

Ethereum (ETH) is showing strong bullish signals against Bitcoin (BTC), sparking excitement about a potential altseason. Technical analysis reveals at least two classic bullish patterns in the ETH/BTC ratio: a cup-and-handle and a bull flag.

Potential ETH/BTC Rally: 30-55%

The cup-and-handle pattern suggests a potential breakout above the 0.02596 BTC neckline, targeting 0.03814 BTC – a 55% upside by July. This aligns with the December 2024 resistance level. The bull flag pattern points to a breakout towards 0.03235 BTC, representing a 30% increase from current levels by July, aligning with January-February 2025 levels.

Altseason Predictions: Analyst Insights

Analysts believe an ETH/BTC breakout could trigger a significant altseason. Trader Tardigrade highlights historical periods where Ether's outperformance against Bitcoin coincided with massive altcoin rallies, such as the 2,500%+ gains during 2020-2021.

Other analysts, including Sensei, point to the altcoin market cap relative to Bitcoin retesting a long-term ascending support trendline. Historically, bounces from this level have preceded massive altcoin rallies, potentially leading to a 250,000% rally in altcoins based on repeating historical patterns. Analyst Rinor shares this prediction.

Analyst Moustache also notes that altcoins are breaking out of a seven-year falling wedge, a pattern preceding major rallies in 2017 and 2020, suggesting another altseason may be imminent.
