Kevin Warsh Nominated for Federal Reserve Chair

The Trump administration is preparing to nominate Kevin Warsh, a former Federal Reserve governor, as the next chair of the Federal Reserve. Bloomberg reported this development, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Warsh, aged 55, recently visited the White House. His nomination supports President Donald Trump’s agenda for lower interest rates, as Jerome Powell's term concludes in May.

However, Warsh’s nomination could face hurdles. Senator Thom Tillis has pledged to obstruct any Fed nominee until an ongoing Justice Department investigation into the Federal Reserve's headquarters renovation is concluded.

Previously, Warsh served as a Fed governor from 2006 to 2011, becoming the youngest appointee at 35. During the 2008 financial crisis, he functioned as a liaison to Wall Street and represented the US at the G20.

Before his Fed tenure, Warsh was a Morgan Stanley vice president and later an economic policy aide in the Bush administration.

In April 2025, Warsh addressed the Group of Thirty and the IMF, advocating for transparency reforms at the Fed.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had considered Warsh as a successor to Powell in October 2025. Warsh’s hawkish monetary policy views might clash with Trump’s preference for reduced interest rates.
